Head Start Positions

Family Worker

Provides case management and full range of Head Start services for an assigned case load of families. Serve as a liaison between the program and the home. Advocates for Head Start children and families in the community.

Makes appropriate referrals and follow up to assist families in securing community services.

Works closely with all other service area staff to support families by following-up on program requirements and other referrals, Provides crisis intervention and limited supportive counseling when necessary.

Visits families in their homes at least twice a year. Using a variety of strategies, makes contact with each family at least two times each month to provide information, remind parents of appointments, follow-up on referrals and program requirements.

Participate in recruitment and enrollment activities including in-take interviews.

Maintain on-going record keeping and documentation system including but not limited to child and family data, Family Partnership Agreements, monthly monitoring reports, attendance, meal counts, and contact sheets, etc.

Work closely with other Head Start staff to facilitate the transition of children into, out of and within the Head Start Program

Become familiar with classroom routine and activities in order to encourage and support the home-school connection. Monitor attendance of the children on assigned caseload and follow up on absences.

Requirements include:

  • A bachelor’s or advanced degree in Human Service or related field and two years’ experience in social services -or -
  • Associates degree in Human Service or related field, commitment to further education and three years’ experience in social services.
  • We have 2 positions available, one is bilingua and requires the ability to speak and write fluently in English and Spanish
  • Must be able to work flexible hours.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a car.
  • Knowledge of social services and community resources.
  • Ability to work cooperatively, with supervisor and other staff, as a team member to build positive school-family partnerships.
  • Ability to multi-task, keep accurate records and meet timeline requirements.
  • Ability to relate well to people and capable of inspiring confidence.
  • Computer literacy.

Salary: $31,000 - $34,000 per year, DOE

Hours: 30 - 35 Hours/week, Monday through Friday


Children & Youth Services Positions

Assistant Teacher (Part Time)
We are looking for creative and enthusiastic people committed to providing quality care that facilitates the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of children, stressing the importance of individuality, diversity, unity, choice and autonomy.

Requirements include:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Child Development Associate Certification preferred
  • 1 year teaching experience, and 1 year childcare experience preferred
  • Minimum requirement: High School Diploma and two years of related experience working with children, although some college work in a relevant field is preferred.
  • Certification in CPR preferred.

Salary: $12.00 - $13.50 per hour, DOE

Hours: Mon-Fri, 7am to 9am and/or 12:30pm - 5:30pm



Community Connections Positions

Life Skills Coach (LSC) – DSH
Creative, caring individuals needed to provide services for adults with intellectual disabilities and behavioral challenges. Life Skill Coaches are expected to pick up and drop off individuals when scheduled, teach life skills per scheduled activities and drive individuals on outings using agency vehicle. Life Skill Coaches are required to obtain and maintain Public Service License.

Requirements include:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older
    Minimum high school degree with two years' experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities, or College degree and a minimum of one year experience with individuals with intellectual disabilities
  • A valid CT driver's license for 3 years or more; eligible to obtain and maintain a Public Service License and approval from vehicle leasing vendor
  • Ability to obtain a Public Service License (PSL) and clean driving record

Salary: $15.00-17.25 per hour

Hours: Mon-Fri 8:30am - 3:30pm


Residential Life Skills Coach (Full Time, Part Time & Weekends)
The LSC provide services to all residents living within the West Haven Community House Residential Program in the areas of daily living activities and independent life skills. The coach implements behavior programs; facilitates and promotes community integration, and is expected to maintain a clean, safe and healthy environment for the residents.

Requirements include:

  • Must be 21 years of age or older.
  • Minimum of an Associate's degree and 1 year experience or High School. Diploma and two years of related experience with adults with intellectual disabilities.
  • Must be DDS Medication Administration Certification, or the ability to obtain and maintain within six months of hire.
  • Certification in CPR required prior to hire.
  • A valid CT driver's license for three or more years, and the ability to obtain and maintain approval from vehicle leasing vendor.

Salary: $15.00 - $17.25 per hour, DOE


Driver (part time/split shift)
Experienced drivers needed to transport adults with disabilities to and from day program.

Requirements include:

  • Valid State of Connecticut driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Minimum of five years driving experience
  • Valid Public Service license or CDL
  • Must be 21 years of age or older

    Salary: $14.75 per hour

Hours: 20 hours per week, Mon-Fri, Split shift 7am to 9am and 2:30pm - 4:30pm
