Teen CHAT

The Community House's TeenCHAT program affords youth an opportunity to discuss issues relevant to their lives in a setting in which they feel comfortable and supported. Held at Bailey Middle School for 7th and 8th graders, the afterschool program provides youth with information about adolescent development, teaches techniques to avoid negative peer pressures, and empowers the youth to complete their education and avoid early sexual activity and early parenting. Participants generally attend 1 or 2 afterschool sessions per week during the school year; summer trips and activities help the youth remain connected to program staff and peers.

TeenCHAT also serves an important role in creating a group identity for the youth participants. Students plan and go on educational trips together, and create and participate in fun community service projects.
